When engaging with friends or family who have joined a cult like the Sea Organization (Scientology’s upper echelon), there are some important do’s and don’ts which I go over in this short clip. Enjoy!

Good advice, Chris. My mother understood this and was thus able to continue seeing me and writing to me. I would say the most important thing is just to BE there for them. Talk about family, send pictures. talk about all the things you are doing “on the outside.” This will help them envision life outside Scientology. And, I would say, be very interested in what they are doing. Ask them what their job is, what they do all day, what they do on their time off, who their friends are. This will bring any cognitive dissonance into sharp relief. You don’t have to criticize Scientology, just get them examining their own life and something will click.
