Is Scientology’s RPF an Abusive Program?

In this short clip, I discuss some of the more grim details of Scientology’s Rehabiliation Project Force, a disciplinary and “rehabilitation” program for Sea Org members who have somehow violated the rules.

  1. Hi Chris,

I’m new to this, never been in Scientology but was in a similar mind-control cult for over a decade. Thank you for your courage and the valuable work you’re doing btw.

I’m from the UK and I’m sure you know this but coercive control was outlawed here in December 2015. It is, however, confined to “within intimate or family relationships”, which means it’s unlikely it would be applicable to a cult or coercive religion, such as Scientology. It would be great to see that change in the near future.

I know you’re a busy guy but I’d really love to understand what US laws are applicable to cult mind-control. Do you think a coercive control law, such as we have here, it it were extended beyond intimate relationships, would be useful.

    I’d really appreciate any guidance/links.

    Once again, thank you.

    1. Unfortunately, here in the US we still have a very huge problem with “religious freedom” being used to abuse and harm people and legislators have not exhibited any real effort to curb this with laws. There are activists and individual lawyers/firms that are taking on cultic groups for their abusive practices, but it’s still an uphill battle here. I am hopeful that the coercive control laws being enacted elsewhere will be tailored for the US too at some point, but it doesn’t look like that is happening anytime soon.
