By request, I am creating a series of Public Service Announcements (PSAs) about important concepts in critical thinking. These will all be short, about a minute or so, and will cover one topic each. This second one is about opposing beliefs and the importance of questioning everything.
Here is the transcript for this:
A critical thinker is in a frame of mind of always questioning everything, including things they don’t necessarily want to question.
You may have done some research and satisfied yourself on a position you are sure is right. Good. Now after a month or two of that, go look at some research that opposes your point of view or challenges the position you’ve taken. You can even look into it with the idea of poking holes in their arguments if you want, but it would be better to just have an open mind and read it as though you’d never heard or seen anything on the issue before.
You may be very surprised what you learn and if you are doing this right, you will be.
Always be open to opposing points of view and counter arguments. That’s what critical thinkers do.
And now you know.

Hiya Chris. I was wondering if you are aware of anyone ever having infiltrated scientology as a ‘spy’ of sorts in order to gather information for the public via an article/expose’? And whether he/she was found out (that you know of either while there or after the fact). As a side note…..I work in a used bookstore and it seems every week we get all sorts of scientology books….I don’t mean anti-scientology books, but like complete encyclopedic sets of the courses, of LRH’s writings, etc. People sell them to us, but we don’t buy them and have a few copies available which never sells. We keep these books (alng with the books exposing them as a cult/fraud) in the Metaphysics section and scientology has its own shelf. LRH’s sci-fy books don’t sell either. Thanks for the work you do.
Love this Chris! It reminds me of a quote I heard recently on public radio, forget who by but it went something like, ” Surrounding yourself with those who agree with you provides comfort, surrounding yourself with those that do not creates growth”. Keep up the GREAT work!!!
