Scientology is not the only destructive cult that practices shunning or, as they call it, disconnection. The Jehovah’s Witnesses also engage in this toxic practice, ripping apart families and destroying lives in the process. Recently the Jehovah’s Witnesses have released a video indoctrinating its members in how to shun family members and loved ones “for their own good.” In this video, ex-JW Lloyd Evans and I discuss this video and the subject.
My inlaws were Lutheran… My wife and I decided to get married in a Catholic Church. They would not participate, very limited contact as we had 2 boys. She died 8yrs ago of cancer. Me and our 2 boys have not seen them since her funeral. Shunning or disconection… It’s a sick control mechanism… The pinnacle of selfishness.. This is why I studied cults like scientology jw and sociopaths.. Why? Who benefits ? I still don’t know.
I know two daughters of a very devout JW, their mother.
When the two daughters were 13 and 15 years old, this mother kicked them out of her house to live on their own because they smoked cigarettes, drank alcohol, and rebelled against the teachings of the Jehovah’s Witnesses.
This was about 40 years ago. As a JW, she never celebrated or recognized birthdays or holidays. So they rarely ever visited each other and remained estranged throughout this time.
But the mother, now in her late 70’s, recently developed a brain tumor and has come to live with one of her daughters as she had nowhere else to go. The mother’s brain surgery left her a little less “cognitive” than she had been.
One day she blurted out:
“I didn’t think any of us would be alive today. I was sure that the Rapture would have come by now.”
This explained everything to them.
