This is the fifth and final part of my interview with former Scientologist Shane Weightman.
We’ve covered how Shane grew up in Scientology and after becoming staff at the London Church, he experienced and learned things about Scientology that caused him to doubt what he had been part of his whole life. He was sent to the Flag Service Org in Clearwater, Florida to get his head straightened out. There, they tried to convince him that all the things he’d seen and heard were all lies, that his bad thoughts about Scientology were due to his own moral transgressions and that if he turned his back on Scientology, he’d become part of a depraved and horrible world that was bent on nothing but destruction. They also tried to tell him that the woman he loved was an antisocial psychotic and that he needed to break up with her for his own good. She had been a Scientologist in good standing for most of her life and had actually made it to the highest levels of Scientology’s Bridge to Total Freedom. It was only when she started having her own doubts and reservations about Scientology that she was deemed psychotic. Shane was not convinced and he was sent back to London to be dealt with by his parents. They had been part of the Office of Special Affairs, Scientology’s covert operations and legal division, and in this final part of our interview, we learn what Shane had to go through and how he finally escaped the prison of belief.
