This is the fifth and final part of my interview with former Scientologist Tim DeWall. We’ve covered his entire Scientology history from when he first got involved in his early 20s in Saint Louis, to joining Scientology staff and running the Tampa Church to what it was like after staff as a public in Clearwater, Florida, a stronghold of Scientology influence.
Now I have a real surprise because for this last part, we’re going to cover how Tim left Scientology. But in order to do this story justice and give you the full explanation for how it happened, I’ve arranged to have Tim’s wife, Sylvia, also be part of this last interview.
There is always a danger when you are a Scientologist that if you become disaffected with the Church and start disagreeing with what is going on with it, that your relatives and spouse will want to stay involved and will end up disconnecting from you rather than threaten what they think is their spiritual eternity. And so it was with Tim and Sylvia, but I think you’ll be a little surprised at how the whole thing went down.
